An Eco friendly airport

The Athens International Airport (AIA) builds up a strong environmental “consciousness” and challenges its employees with a recycling contest within the context of its recently launched “Beat Plastic Pollution” campaign. In an effort to limit the use of plastic at the airport, it replaces all single-use plastic items with environmentally friendly alternatives, urging at the same time its employees to recycle. The AIA will also launch educational programs at schools in areas around the airport and reward students participating in the AIA recycling program. It is worth noticing that AIA increased the recycling rate at the airport from a mere 3 percent in 2001 to over 60 percent in 2017.
