A joint initiative of some of the oldest wine makers in the vicinity of Greece's capital fused the establishment of the non-profit urban company “Wines of Athens” which aims to promote the local varieties of wine and link them through an organized system of “wine routes” to popular archaeological sites and attractions of Athens. The initiative also aims to produce quality vintages and highlight the local Savvatiano grape that grows in Attica. Among the wineries included in this unique “venture” are Kokotou Estate, Anastasia Fragou Wineries, Markou Vineyards, Papagiannakou wineries and Mylona Microwinery, which will be open to visitors, allowing them to taste test their wines and even buy wine on the spot.
