Βuilding formerly housing Education Ministry turned into hotel

The six-story abandoned building, once housing the Greek Education Ministry, at Mitropoleos Street, near Syntagma, will be brought back to life given a “second chance”, more luxurious this time, as a hotel establishment. According to press reports, the Electra Hotels & Resorts, winner of the tender conducted by the Church of Greece regarding the leasing of the building, has already filed plans to convert it into a four- or five-star hotel, while renovation works are estimated to take be completed within a period of three years. The hotel group, which runs two more hotels in the same are, will be leasing the building for 40 years, with option to extension.

A 16th century Byzantine church of considerable historical value is situated on the building’s ground floor.
