Christmas bookings close to capacity

Outfacing the economic crisis, Greeks bring hotels in some of the most popular winter and holiday destinations in Greece to their almost full capacity with bookings expecting to exceed 90 percent, according to a report by Imerisia newspaper. Less than two weeks before Christmas, and with prices retained to last yearʼs levels and with special offers for extended stay, figures are most cheering for the industry. 85 percent of the accommodations at Arachova, Boeotia, are already booked for Christmas and 75 percent for New Yearʼs.  At Ioannina, western Greece, 85 percent are booked so far for both holidays, while at Magnesia-Pilion, central Greece, occupancy exceeds 80 percent for Christmas, with the figure expected to reach 90 percent, and 70 percent for New Yearʼs. 80 percent of hotel accommodations are already booked at Kalavryta, Peloponnese with hoteliers expecting full capacity by Christmas Eve. According to the newspaperʼs report, hoteliers are confident that the political developments and the current political instability will not turn their expectations off, though they express fears that snap elections in late January or early February will greatly affect the winter tourism season.
