Disappearance of Greek oil tanker in Guinea still a mystery

Unknown remains the fate of the Greek oil tanker that disappeared in the Gulf of Guinea last week while the owning company expresses fears of the vessel being attacked by pirates. According to reports, the Liberia-flagged MT Fair Artemis last communicated with its managing company Fairdeal Group last Wednesday while off the coast of Ghana, West Africa.

An official at the port in Tema, east of Ghana’s capital, told Reuters on Monday that the ship’s captain had sent out a distress call last Wednesday, saying the tanker was “hijacked and looted in Togolese waters”. The captain of the 24-member crew and the first mate, are Greeks. Four of the crew are Sri Lankan, one is Ghanan national and 17 Filipinos.
