Emporikon hotel opens doors after a century

A jewel Athenian art nouveau-style hotel, the historic “Emporikon”, which stood ravaged and derelict for more than half a century, is about to open its doors again on New Year’s Day. Right in the heart of Athens and with direct access to the city’s main attractions, Emporikon sleepers in a new life with its 14 rooms and suites fully restored and its past glory revived, to offer its guests a 5-star hospitality experience. During the 19th century, when the Greek capital was at its thrive, “Emporikon” served tradesmen as a central economy class hotel. The World War II outbreak in the ‘40s “bolted” its doors, which remained shut until present day. It was declared a landmark in 2006, and in 2011 the Secretariat of the Central Council for Modern Monuments approved its operation as a hotel and last June it was leased to Anastasia Pappa, founder and owner of “The New Athens Story”, a company operating for the last 15 years in the development of tourist units.
