Mavili Square is the primordial after-midnight spot, the hot dogs served by the famous canteen before sunrise, the drinks at Lora’s, the savoury puff pastries at Miké, the famous souvlaki (skewers on pita bread) at the corner shop, the sandwiches at Everest, the epic fig ice cream at Epik Gelato, the cool midday beers at Briki and the sophisticated negroni cocktails at Kirios.
Just before the pandemic, two brand new fish restaurants opened at Mavili, giving you one more reason to visit the famous square.
Fish Market, fresh fish from a counter in an Asian-fusion world
Fish Market sparkles in white and reminds you of summer on an island, but not in the Aegean Sea style. In its own unique way, it transfers you to the South of France. Something in the air whispers that you are not here just to taste ordinary grilled sardines. While you read the menu, clients walk in to buy the freshest fish from Kavala, Chios, Kimi (Evia) and other fishing spots of the Aegean Sea. On your first spoonful of the fish soup with curry, lemongrass, coconut milk and fresh coriander, you automatically feel that you have fallen in love with the chef and the whole Asia. Cod fillet with black tempura, potato chips and aioli sauce brings to mind flavours of France, the Aegean Sea and Asia. While oysters are served on crushed ice with four different sauces in test tubes, and mussels are sautéed in garlic, chilli, fish fumet and coriander oil. It is also worth trying the sushi and sashimi, as the mouth-watering fish counter guarantees the freshness of the ingredients.

Psarochori at Mavili Square
A restaurant with fervent supporters and loyal customers who, among others, love the dentex that is baked in a crust of salt and is flambéed before your eyes, before it is filleted to exude its delicious, iodine aromas. Psarochori is neither a tavern nor a classic restaurant. The place is surely impressive, dressed in a fresh, bright white colour, with beautifully set tables on the small terrace. The tasting experience starts with a shot of chilled raki, genuine sourdough bread and croutons served with white fish roe spread. Next, come the freshest grilled sardines you have ever tasted. Mussels are served in a delicious juice made with garlic, white wine and fresh thyme, while the slightly exotic crab salad is prepared with avocado, passion fruit and mayonnaise. The menu also includes the famous Athenian salad, seafood pasta with grouper, leek, celery, carrot and artichoke in a traditional “à la polita” version. To close your meal, you should try the lemon sorbet with fresh lemon juice and zest, one of the best we have ever tasted.
