The “dream” for Greece to host its own Formula1 grand prix would cost around 1 billion dollars for the build of the infrastructure and coverage of the 10 years hosting fee, however it may come true if the necessary investments are made, claimed recently the sport’s head, Bernie Ecclestone at CNN during a talk about the newly registered trademark “Formula 1 Mediterranean Grand Prix”. “The Greeks are keen”, Ecclestone said, and added, “They want me to go and see the Prime Minister or the mayor (of Athens)… We will have to find out if they have got any money”.
According to CNN, private investors are already expressing interest in the emulous project, which is intended at the Keratsini-Drapetsona municipality, west Attica. “It would be hard for Greece to justify a publicly funded investment after receiving more than 150 billion euros in bailouts following the recent recession, with unemployment still above 27 percent, the highest in eurozone”, CNN underlined further.
