Half of the Greek population is able to “communicate” adequately in English, as the language is the first foreign language Greek students learn from their early age, according to data released by the Eurobarometer special surveys. Greece features higher above Italy on the list of countries included in this particular survey, with 50 percent of its population to be able to follow a conversation in English. 34 percent of the Italian does so, while only 22 percent of the Spanish population speaks the language, and 27 percent of the Portuguese. Higher rates to Greece however, are observed in Cyprus, where 73 percent of the Cypriots speak dissent English.

The survey on the other hand, held further surprises, revealing that 5 percent of Great Britain’s population and 6 percent of the Irish doesn’t speak English at all.
