Impressive increase of foreign visitors in the first quarter of 2014

A stunning increase of 21 percent in foreign visitor arrivals to Greece was recorded in the first four months of the year, according to data released by the Civil Aviation Authority. As noted in Kathimerini newspaper, the total arrivals from abroad at the country’s larger airports within the January-April period, numbered 1.81 million, in contrast to almost 1.5 million during the same period last year. It is worth mentioning that the Athens International Airport enjoys the largest share of the increase.

Even more impressive is the 33.9 percent rise of tourist arrivals to all Greek airports, only last month. Equally encouraging is the domestic air traffic increased numbers, with domestic flight arrivals in the first four months of 2014 to be rising by 9.7 percent, some 1.42 million.

Though bookings from almost all the main markets are increasing, Russia however is a puzzling concern. During the first few months of the year, Russia was holding much in arrivals, but since then, a significant slowdown is observed.
