Local authority workers protest

The union representing local authority workers, POE-OTA, has called on employees to occupy city and town Halls today in protest against government’s evaluation scheme, as Supreme Court Prosecutor ordered a preliminary investigation on five Mayors who refuse to cooperate. POE-OTA declares today’s date, September 30, the “local authority day” and calls on staff to walk off their posts from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while it urges its members to resist demands by central government for local authorities to allow state inspectors access to their premises to obtain the data necessary to review thousands of employment contracts.
