The GB Roof Garden, perched atop the historic Hotel Grande Bretagne, has undergone a breathtaking transformation, emerging anew in all its glory.
Stepping through the revolving doors of the Hotel Grande Bretagne for the first time feels like entering a world suspended in time. No matter how far you've traveled or how many grand hotels you’ve experienced, it’s impossible not to pause and take in the brilliance of it all -the polished marble glistening underfoot, the sparkling chandeliers casting their warm glow, the elegant furniture, the art-adorned walls, the mirrors reflecting a bygone grandeur. It is a setting steeped in the refined opulence of another era.
This year marks a remarkable milestone: 150 years since the hotel first opened its doors. Such a legacy is rare, particularly in Greece, and it has been fittingly celebrated with a series of events and initiatives. The Grande Bretagne is more than a hotel; it is a cornerstone of the city, woven deeply into its fabric.
The GB Roof Garden, too, is an inseparable part of this heritage. Situated on the rooftop of this iconic building, the restaurant reopened its doors this summer after a stunning redesign, welcoming visitors to experience its enchanting atmosphere with fresh splendor.
The Enchanting Renewal of the GB Roof Garden
The complete transformation of the GB Roof Garden, entrusted to the renowned British design house Goddard Littlefair, was carried out with profound respect for the architecture of this historic building. Now, in its grand new hall, the space exudes a refined elegance where natural materials take center stage. White marble and wood reign supreme, complemented by a soothing palette of neutral tones, accented with delicate touches of rose, green, and gold, alongside carefully curated designer furnishings.
Yet, no matter how exquisite the interior, the true star of the GB Roof Garden remains unchanged: the spellbinding view of the Acropolis. This unparalleled vista has been thoughtfully elevated through the new design, crafted to enhance the experience of every visitor.
The space itself now feels even more inviting and warm, enriched by vibrant design elements inspired by Greek tradition. Subtle nods to heritage, like details drawn from the ceremonial attire of the Evzones, infuse the ambiance with character and charm, creating a harmonious blend of sophistication and heartfelt hospitality.
Gastronomy at the GB Roof Garden
Naturally, the essence of any restaurant lies in its cuisine. At the GB Roof Garden, this is entrusted to the masterful hands of Executive Chef Asterios Koustoudis, the culinary visionary behind the hotel’s gastronomic excellence, Chef de Cuisine Nikos Liokas, and Pastry Chef Alexandros Koufas. Together, they have crafted a new fine comfort menu, celebrating dishes that shine with the brilliance of local products, fresh seasonal ingredients sourced from Greek producers, and their inventive flair. The result is a harmonious blend of international culinary trends with the profound gastronomic heritage of Greece.
Adding to this feast for the senses is the spectacular Garden Bar. Here, guests can indulge not only in refreshing cocktails but also in an enticing bar food menu, all while savoring a backdrop like no other -the Parthenon illuminated against the evening sky and a breathtaking sunset that paints the horizon.
For those seeking an experience where flavor meets artistry, the GB Roof Garden promises a journey of taste and beauty unlike any other.
