Maria Callas’ house to be restored

Abandoned for years, the building of 61, Patission Street in central Athens where legendary opera singer Maria Callas lived from 1937 to 1945 before she left for the United States, finally gets the attention long anticipated. The historic building is now going under restoration in order to house the Maria Callas Opera Academy, as announced recently. According to Kathimerini, the City of Athens has already reached an agreement with the building’s current owner, the Insurance Fund of Seafarers (NAT), while officials are reportedly working out the details so that the project will be included in the EU Community Support Framework for Greece in 2015.
