Measures against illegal behaviour introduced by the University of Athens

The newly appointed rector at the University of Athens, Theodoros Fortsakis, has announced measures against illegal behaviour inside the campus aiming, as he said, to contain “drug dealing, illegal trade, acts of vandalism (and) thefts”, phenomena currently thriving on university grounds. Within the context of the rector’s new policies, students would be requested to show their ID cards when entering problem-hit sections. Speaking at Ta Nea daily, Mr. Fortsakis said, “I will not call the police, but I will make sure the university operates smoothly”.  It appears a long way for the new rector since as early as on his swearing-in ceremony earlier this week he faced protests against budget cuts and the expulsion of thousands of the so-called “eternal” students.
