Municipal and Regional Elections 2014

Rena Dourou, main opposition radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) candidate for the Prefecture of Attica comes ahead (23.73 pct) of incumbent Yiannis Sgouros (22.18 pct) based on 92 pct of all votes counted so far, in the early hours today.
For the Municipality of Athens, Yiorgos Kaminis supported by the Panhellnic Socialist Movement (PASOK) and Democratic Left (DIMAR), was ahead of SYRIZA supported candidate Gavriil Sakellaridis, with 21.05 pct over 20 pct, with 99.10 pct of votes counted so far.
At Thessaloniki, with 94.25 pct of votes counted, the incumbent Yiannis Boutaris comes ahead of Stavros Kalafatis (36.03 pct) over 26.19 pct.
Independent candidate Yiannis Moralis (33.24 pct) in Piraeus takes precedence over incumbent Vassilis Michaloliakos (31.32 pct) with 96.35 pct of votes counted.
According to the Greek Ministry of Interior and as of this time, the official voting results for 12 prefectures, excluding Attica, are as follows:
-Prefecture of Central Macedonia, northern Greece (95.07 pct of votes counted): Tzitzikostas Apostolos 32.79 pct, Ioannidis Yiannis 18.72 pct
-Prefecture of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, north-eastern Greece (91.42 pct of votes counted): Pavlidis Georgios 34.10 pct, Giannakidis Aristridis 27.68 pct
-Prefecture of Western Macedonia, north-western Greece (88.90 pct of votes counted): Dakis Georgios 36.44 pct, Karypidis Theodoros 28.51 pct
-Prefecture of Northern Aegean, north-eastern Greece (99.62 pct of votes counted): Kalogirou Christiana 31.47 pct, Giakalis Athanassios 25.92 pct
-Prefecture of Western Greece (92.89 pct of votes counted): Katsifaras Apostolos 23.02 pct, Katsaniotis Andreas 19.94 pct
-Prefecture of Epirus, north-western Greece (96 pct of votes counted): Kahrimanis Alexandros 50.74 pct, Gerovasili Olga 24.64 pct
-Prefecture of Thessaly, central Greece (93.07 pct of votes counted): Agorastos Konstantinos 42.89 pct, Tsilimigas Nikos 17.23 pct
-Prefecture of Ionian Islands, western Greece (97.96 pct of votes counted): Spyrou Spyridon 21.83 pct, Galiatsatos Theodoros 20.50 pct
-Prefecture of Crete Island, southern Greece (88.54 pct of votes counted): Arnaoutakis Stavros 40.80 pct, Tsolkas Ser. 26.29 pct
-Prefecture of Southern Aegean, south-eastern Greece (87.92 pct of votes counted): Hatzimarkos Georgios 35.07 pct, Maheridis Yiannis 32.71 pct
-Prefecture of Peloponnese, south-western Greece (95.22 pct of votes counted): Tatoulis Petros 43.42 pct, Voudouris Odysseas 15.63 pct
-Prefecture of Sterea Ellada, central Greece (89.70 pct of votes counted): Bakogiannis Kostas 41.51 pct, Apostolou Evangelos 18.51 pct
 

The candidacy of Yiannis Sgouros for the prefecture of Attica and Yiorgos Kaminis’ for the Municipality of Athens, are supported by the government as government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou stated while speaking to the private TV station “Mega” earlier this morning. The government does not support candidates who seek to overthrow the government, said Mr. Kedikoglou.  

Asked on Piraeus' election results, he said that nobody in Piraeus seeks to overthrow the government and added that candidate Vassilis Mihaloliakos is a member of New Democracy.
