Nafplio’s old Customs building to become cultural centre

Nafplio’s old Customs’ offices, a historical monument and landmark building, was granted by the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Culture to be transformed into an arts and culture contemporary venue. The 1830 building, a work of architect Stamatis Keanthes, was operating until 1999. In 2004 the property “passed on” to the Municipality of Nafplio by agreement with the Public Real Estate Corporation, provided however its restoration, which never happened. There have been several “suitors” till then, such as the Port Authorities of Nafplio to house their offices, or the Justice Ministry to house an administrative court, but none got on. In January 2014, the Ministry of Culture and Sports made an official request to be granted use of the property to host cultural events, which was finally approved by the Technical Services and Housing committee of the Finance Ministry.
