New rules for business endeavors down at the beach are set by the Finance and Interior Ministries, according to which, local authorities will now be able to rent spaces to be used as cafes and bars for two years, not one, but the options for alterations to the natural environment for such businesses more limited. Also, the share of revenue that goes to the state from the municipalities for such deals increases from 20 to 30 percent. As to what kind of structures can be placed on beaches, things are getting even tighter. Decking will be banned unless it involves walkways for beachgoers, while tables and chairs will be not allowed right on the beach, but only within the venue’s premises. Sun loungers and umbrellas should also be allowed at a distance of 5 meters away from the beach, and not 3. The new rules also ban the use of structures, such as tents or pavilions, designed to provide shade. Last year, enterprises renting beach space were allowed to use structures covering up to 20 square meters, while mobile canteens can rent only half the space they could last year (15 square meters rather than 30) and are not allowed to have sound systems.
