A yacht carrying at least 60 to 65 immigrants capsized this morning in the eastern Aegean off the coast of Samos near the Turkish coast line. 22 reported dead and a distinctive number of missing. The vessel was trying to enter the country illegally when overturned.
It is the third tragedy of such kind that occurs in the Greek waters this years.
As the Greek coast guard informed, 36 people (32 men, three women and a child) were rescued, while two of them, a man and a child, were transferred by helicopter to a hospital on the mainland.
Coast guard vessels, fishing boats, two search and rescue helicopters have been called upon the search for survivors or bodies. Also, a cruise ship sailing nearby helped for several hours in the morning before being cleared to continue its journey.
