The Acropolis Museum celebrates the European Night of Museums on Saturday May 16 and the International Museum Day on Monday May 18, with a series of events that include music, performances and children’s activities.
On Saturday May 16, visitors will be introduced to the “Astral divinities: images, beliefs, cults” through a thematic presentation to be held at 8.30 and 10.30 at night. Also at 9.00pm, the Quintet of Dimitris Vassilakis will give a live concert of European jazz songs at the museum’s courtyard. Admittance to the museum is free and the museum will be open from 8.00am till midnight.
On Monday May 18, the museum hosts the thematic performance “The crow and other winged animals”, while for its “little” visitors - up to 12 years of age – the museum has organized a “Feathers” performance through which children will get acquainted with their favorite winged creature, the crow, the owl, the eagle, the sphinx, the siren and Hermes. With the digital aid, through sounds, visuals and workshop materials they will learn about myths and legends and listen to thousand year old stories and ancient tales. The museum will be open from 08:00am to 08:00pm.
On the occasion of this year’s celebrations, and continuing the minting of commemorative medals, the Acropolis Museum will display a “crow” medal. Crows had been admired in the ancient times for their high intelligence. They were know to guide hikers in deserted places, herald the future by diversifying the tone of their voice and flight, and proclaim rain and wind.
