Police officers arrested for extortion

Two police sergeants are facing prosecutor at Corfu today, Tuesday, as arrested on charges of extorting money from café owners with illegal gambling running in their establishment. The two officers, who have been serving on the island’s central precinct, were under internal police investigation. Police set up a string operation with marked bills and caught their fellow officers in the act of receiving money. 

One civilian has also been arrested for providing aid to the extortionists.
