Holidaymakers travelling within the EU will be paying the same price to use their mobile phone as they would at home, as the European authorities have agreed upon discarding roaming charges. According to a recent agreement reached between the European Parliament and the Council, in effect from June 2017, mobile phone users will pay the same price for calls, texts and mobile data as at home, with no extra charges, wherever they are travelling in the EU. The agreement also comes with a parallel deal on internet neutrality that allows telecoms companies to charge service providers for faster connections to their customers. It means that providers could potentially pay for priority over rivals while users will be free to access the content of their choice, they will not be unfairly blocked or slowed down, and paid prioritization will not be allowed.
