The ancient Sphinxes recently unearthed at Amphipolis, in the northern Greek province of Central Macedonia, were covered with in plastic in order to be protected against weather conditions and curious visitors.
The site, a burial mound dating from the times of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia, is still under excavation and is widely expected to yield very important findings.
According to Athens News Agency, the archaeologists continue to work at the burial site despite high temperatures.
Many people have tried to approach as closely as possible to the site and aurthorities have upgraded security measures by despatching police officers to the site.
