In a police operation that took place in Mondayʼs early hours, the Syrian refugees that were holding a sit-in protest outside the Greek Parliament have been removed from Syntagma Square. The refugees have been taken by buses to the Attica Foreign Nationals Department, however several of them, mainly women and children were already taken to a social housing infrastructure of the Municipality of Athens last Friday, with city mayor Yiorgos Kaminis urging other mayors of the Attica region to help solve the issue.
Defying nasty weather conditions the Syrian refugees had camped for almost a month on Athenʼs Syntagma Square, asking to be issued with travel documents in order to leave Greece.
