University places to be reduced

Cut by 1,500 will be the available places at the Greek universities for the coming academic year in the wake of overcrowding observed during the last few months, reports Kathimerini. According to sources, Education Minister Aristides Baltas has decided there will be 69,000 places available compared to the over excessive number of 70,300 last September. Yet, it remains undecided whether transfers between universities will be allowed, a policy that was partly responsible for overcrowding the most popular institutions.

University entrance exams are to begin on May 20.
