The West Nile virus is feared to reappear this summer, a result of this year’s mild winter and long spells of rain. As George Konstantos, a public health expert at the Attica Regional Authority in charge of spraying, said at Kathimerini Newspaper, sprays were initiated as of early April, in order to control mosquito numbers ahead of the summer period. Municipalities, however, have been slow in getting started, said Mr. Konstantos, expressing his concern over the next few weeks’ eventual temperatures rise that would quicken the incubation period of mosquito larva.
Last summer, the West Nile Virus resulted to 35 deaths.
