A unique celebration of viticulture takes place this weekend, September 5-7, at Nemea, at north-eastern Peloponnese, right at the harvest’s kick off. Not only a town with world significant archaeological interest, Nemea is also the largest wine-producing region in the Balkans with over 40 winery establishments that proud for a vast variety of protected designation of origin (PDO) wines. From Friday to Sunday we raise glasses at the town’s wineries, which open their doors and initiate visitors to a winemaking experience, offering also special children’s sessions. Apart from “sniffing” and tasting, there will be culinary demonstrations with renowned chefs preparing dishes with wine, while the festival’s program also includes concerts, seminars, audiovisual presentations and many more. Take advantage of the affordable prices and bring some of the excellent “Nemean” wine at home. Nemea is about 1.5-hour away from Athens.
