Animal abusers to face immediate prosecution

As brutal attacks on animals, particularly on stray dogs and cats are becoming worryingly increased, Supreme Court prosecutor, Efterpi Koutzamani, sent a circular to prosecutors across the country asking them to act imminently when abuse is reported and bring offenders to justice. In her note, also forwarded to police precincts, Koutzamani is asking the authorities to enforce existing legislation designed to avert abuse and exploitation of animals and impose “exemplary punishment” to those found guilty of such acts.
Greece to contribute 1 million euros to Gaza
Greece will further contribute 1 million euros to the reconstruction of Gaza, announced Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos on Sunday, during the International Gaza Reconstruction Conference in Cairo. Venizelos revealed that Greece would add another million to the 25.66 million it has contributed “for technical co-operation, financial support, education, health infrastructure, the social sector, as well as for humanitarian aid” between 2008 and 2012.
“Following the recent devastating conflict, Gaza finds itself in desperate and urgent need, not only of reconstruction, but - more broadly - of recovery and relief for its suffering population, and of restoration of normal daily living conditions, including through access to, and from, the outside world”, said the Greek minister, calling the Palestinian consensus government on “exercising its responsibilities in Gaza” while he reiterated Greece’s support for the creation of a Palestinian state.
