A new Greek penal code could soon allow prison inmates to copulate with their spouses during their visits. According to comments made by Justice Minister Haralambos Athanasiou on Wednesday, the proposal was one of several recommendations forwarded by MPs who were tasked with reform suggestions. If the new penal code passes in Parliament, conjugal visits between inmates and their spouses could be introduced in facilities providing adequate space, however this could prove problematic as Greek jails are notoriously overcrowded. More than 11,900 inmates are literary packed in the country’s 9,886 people capacity prisons, stressed the minister.
