Athens International Airport launches its collaboration with the Art-Athina International Fair of Contemporary Art, which this year celebrates its 20th edition, by hosting 6 special exhibitions at the airport’s exhibition venues.
Three thematic displays introducing the history of the city of Athens and its environment as well as that of contemporary art in public spaces will be presented at the “Art and Environment” exhibition area at Departures Level.
The first exhibition, “Athens of yesterday, today”, features selected photographs of statues located in Athens as captured by the particularly humorous “eye” of the distinguished photographer Aristeidis Kontogeorgis. The curator is professor Manos Stefanidis. The show runs from January 12 to April 30, 2015, with free 24-hour access for passengers and visitors.
Under the title “The Walls of Athens speak”, the second exhibition, which will run from May 4 to August 30, will be featuring contemporary art events, and the third, entitled “Contemporary art and public space in 21st century Athens”, will present the city’s installations of contemporary art (September 7 - December 31, 2015).
Parallel to these shows, three more exhibitions will be hosted at the “Art and Culture” exhibition venue (Arrivals Level), showcasing the work of acclaimed artists on the theme of “Travel”.
