E-tickets for ferries to be launched soon

Travelling by ferry enters a new passenger-friendly era with a new e-ticket system to be launched in Greece in the coming months. Once finalized, the new system, by initiative of Merchant Marine Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, will enable travellers to use their smartphones for booking, purchasing and printing their boarding pass online. This new scheme is part of the ministry’s efforts to upgrade coastal shipping services, boost passenger traffic, optimize passenger ticket control and simplify bureaucratic procedures, says Mr. Varvitsiotis.

According to coastal shipping insiders, this is a positive step towards facilitating travel, however it would require ferry companies to draw up a unified system of ticket control.
