Alexander the Great statue to erected in Athens

Almost 20 years after it was crafted, a bronze statue of King Alexander the Great will be erected in central Athens, as decided by the Central Archaeological Council (KAS). The statue, a work of sculptor Yiannis Pappas, was donated by the Culture Ministry to the Municipality of Athens some 20 years ago, but remained ever since away from public eye, in the late artist’s yard. The placement of the statue has been a subject of controversy over the years, with the Municipality of Athens been widely accused of intentionally stalling the process. Today, the Municipality suggests two possible locations in the capital, one on the corner of Vass. Olgas str., and the other on either the Vass. Amalias avenue or on the Asomaton Square at Thission.
