"Violation of human rights of migrants a thing of the past" say minister

Her intentions to halt police operations designed to curb irregular migration and close migrant reception camps, widely known for their poor conditions, revealed Greek Immigration Policy Minister Tasia Christodoulopoulou, according to an interview with news website left.gr.
“The so-called ‘sweep operation’ like the one of Xenios Zeus and the violation of human rights of migrants belongs to the past”, Christodoulopoulou was quoted as saying in an interview published on Wednesday, while adding that “most immigrants are war refugees. To those people we are obliged by international agreements to grant asylum and protection”.
The minister also said that the government will close down the migrant detention centres set up to house the scores of undocumented migrants that arrived in Greece.
“These camps are inconsistent to humanitarianism, the rule of law, and any sense of reason”,
she said further, adding that the government is considering alternative accommodation.
