With just 115 inhabitants Irakleia is just an hour away from Naxos. There you will enjoy peaceful holidays, in a traditional environment with crystal clear waters. There are two villages on the island, Agios Georgios the port and Panagia (Chora) connected between them with a 4 km asphalt road and a bus going up and down regularly.
Where to swim
The main feature of every beach on the island is calmness, as all the surrounding larger islands act as “tidal barriers”. The beaches are mostly shallow perfect for families. If you are looking for a sandy beach got to Livadi, Agios Georgios (also suitable for free camping), Voreini Spilia, Alimia. If you are more of a pebble person got to Karvounolakos and Amoudi.
Where to eat
First of all you should get acquainted with the traditional local products such as excellent thyme honey, local soft cheeses and fava. There are also local meats and fish coming in with the fishing boats every day. You will find quite a few tavernas such as Perigiali (71118) for fresh fish right out of the owner's boat and Steki (+30 71579) for local meats, cheeses and fava while their bread is made in a traditional wood oven.
Where to stay
