New, strict law against child pornography approved

A bill that administers a wider and more severe law frame against child pornography and sexual abuse was approved in Greek Parliament during an “in principle” vote session on Wednesday. MPs of five of the parliamentary parties, New Democracy, PASOK, SYRIZA, Independent Greeks and Democratic Left (DIMAR), approved an updated draft law that includes offenses such as grooming via social media or exposing abused children to a much wider audience through the web, which were not covered in justice until present. The draft law also provides for greater protection to victims of such crimes including as well the issuing of residence permits.

Golden Dawn and the Communist Party voted “present” during the ballot.
