Parliament shut down for summer four weeks earlier than scheduled

Without official explanation provided, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has ordered Parliament to shut down for the summer about four weeks earlier than originally scheduled, raising intense reactions within all parties of the opposition, particularly when the President of Parliament, Evangelos Meimarakis, had recently assured that there was no reason for the Parliament to close earlier. As such, it is largely believed that Samaras looks to the easy way of passing a number of critical bills, since during the summer sessions only 100 MPs, chosen by each party, participate in the proceedings. The early closure of Parliament may also be related, as speculated, to the limitation period of potential crimes that may have been implemented during the administrations of Papandreou and Papadimos.
