By a majority vote of 4 to 3, the Supreme Labour Council approved the dismissal of 45 out of 75 employees of the Hellenic Halyvourgia though, as the newspaper “To Vima” reports, the union and representatives of the Ministry of Labour had otherwise voted arguing that the company had not provided concrete arguments to substantiate that dismissals should contribute in the company’s consolidating procedures. This is the first case of collective dismissals to be approved since the relevant authority was transferred from the Minister of Labour to the Ministry’s general secretary and Supreme Labour Council and concerns are rising now that the Council’s decision would create a fertile ground for companies to apply for collective dismissals.
