Parts of an ancient necropolis, dated back to the 6th century BC, have been revealed under the archaeological hole at a digging site at “Psomi” area on the island of Chios. A number of clay sarcophagi feature among the interesting findings but what amazed the most were the complete remains of a horse, which have been transferred to the Archaeological Museum of Chios.
According to the archaeologists, this necropolis is the earliest, organized as such, burial ground on the island, and further excavations are expected to surface more about the historic topography of the ancient city.
