New task force against excessive taxation

Within the government’s intention to alleviate citizens of the heavy tax burden, a task force against excessive taxation is in the making upon decision of the Deputy Finance Minister Yiorgos Mavraganis. Headed by the general secretary of public revenues, the eight-member team of ministry officials and representatives of social groups, such as labour unions and traders’ chambers, will be assigned to identify instances where citizens or enterprises are overtaxed, as well as bureaucratic and tax obstacles that suppress smooth market operations.

Notably, one of the team’s members will be the head of the General Directorate for Customs and Special Consumption Taxes, since one of the government’s main objectives is to reduce the consumption tax on fuel.
