Staff shortages days before schools open

It is only a few days left before the first strike of the school bell for the new academic year and the Ministry of Education makes haste to fill in teachers’ gaps, while staff shortfalls is more evident in the all-day and special schools.

Up to now the Ministry has announced the recruitment of 3,000 substitute teachers and is currently allocating them in order to cover the demands. As reported in “Ta Nea” newspaper, nurseries and schools have covered their needs by 65% and 66.4% respectively. According to the newspaper, additional 2,000 replacement teachers are to be mobilized by Wednesday in order to fill additional gaps. The biggest problems so far are experienced in the all-day schools, and especially in their afternoon programs.

Schools open this Thursday the 11th of September.
