Amphipolis caryatids uncovered

The magnificent caryatid statues of Amphipolis have been entirely uncovered as archaeologists removed three rows of the limestone wall, announced the Ministry of Culture on Sunday. According to the announcement, the statues measure 2.27 meters high and are dressed in long, fringed robes with voluminous folds. The sandals on their feet are of high platforms and decorated in red and yellow colours, while their toes are sculpted in amazing detail. The two statues stand marble pedestals, while the distance between the two is 1.68m, as is the opening of the first partition wall with the sphinxes. Parts of the Caryatids’ hands and arms have also been discovered.
Finally, archaeologists have found a door in the fourth partition wall, which leads them to believe that there is a fourth passage yet to be revealed.
