Eleftherios Venizelos named airport of the year

The “Eleftherios Venizelos” Athens International Airport was awarded “Airport of the Year” in the 10-30 million-passenger category by Air Transport News, an internationally acclaimed web entity that awards major sectors and leaders of the airline industry globally. “2014 was a year of spectacular growth in airport flow, in an especially sensitive economic and political environment”, said AIA general manager Yiannis Paraschis, noting that the airport has “managed to respond successfully to challenges, protect its business model and continue to create value at all levels”. A targeted policy of incentives to improve airport flow and “the actions taken up annually to strengthen Athens' attractiveness as a tourism destination” played a vital role in this development, he concluded. The nomination event took place in Geneva.
