The new environmental impact report on the privatisation of the Asteria Glyfadas five-star hotel, south of Athens got the approval of the Attica Regional Council, with Deputy regional finance director Christos Karamanos saying that the current report, way different from the one invalidated in 2003, provides strict terms and full protection of the forestland and archaeological site in the area. Residents and other groups had objected to the previous report on grounds including the fact that illegally built structures of recent decades were not going to be torn down and that destructive interventions would take place in the natural forest in the area. They were also expressing fears that the investor would close off the beach for his hotel use.
