Robot «employed» as health receptionist

The receptionist position at Hygeia Hospital in Athens is occupied by a new employee, highly skilled but with rather peculiar characteristics. According to “Iatronet”, the receptionist, called Erato, is a state-of-the-art robot, programmed to receive patients and visitors in the outpatient clinic. Equipped with a camera, microphones, sensors and a motorized remote controlled platform with a balancing system, Erato is able to move, while communicates interactively through the hospital’s wireless Internet network. Visitors and patients can also submit their views and comments to “her” that would help quality improvements and patient safety program enhancement.
