Ancient coins return to Greece

A total of 80 ancient coins will repatriate to Greece from Italy during a special ceremony to be held on the sidelines of the informal EU Culture Ministry Summit in Turin on the 23rd and the 24th of September. The 80 coins, seventy-nine silvers and one bronze, are dated between the 5th and 2nd centuries BC and were initially found in Akanthos and Toroni, in Halkidiki. The ancient artefacts came in the hands of the Italian authorities in 2008, who after conducting a thorough examination, they contacted their Greek counterparts to arrange their return.
Attended by the two Culture Ministers, Dario Franceschini and Kostas Tasoulas, the ceremony will further commemorate the cooperation between the two countries in battling against the illicit trade of cultural goods.
