Athens features among the most affordable destinations in Europe for US travelers, on TripAdvisor’s Triplndex Europe, reports GTP. Looking at 25 most popular European destinations based on traffic on TripAdvisor from U.S. travelers, TripIndex evaluated primary travel expenses, including one-week hotel stay and the average round-trip airfare from the continental U.S., to reveal the year-over-year changes in these prices, and as its latest results suggest, the cost of visiting Athens this summer, during the travel period of June 1-August 31, has fallen 15 percent year-over-year, placing Athens sixth on TripIndex’s affordable destinations chart. An estimated one-week trip to Athens, including accommodation and airtickets, costs $2,087. A year before, the average cost of a seven-days summer trip to Athens was $2,444. The average hotel price in Athens this year for U.S. travelers is at $84.87, while last year it was $99.51, and the average cost of roundtrip airfare from the US to Greece is $1,493 against $1,747 in 2014. On the top of the most affordable destination stands Istanbul, which demonstrates a 25 percent decrease year-over-year and an estimated one-week trip cost of $1,877, followed by Bucharest, Krakow, Budapest, Prague, Athens and Brussels.
