Athens Mayor promises to tear down political posters

Athens Mayor Yiorgos Kaminis appeared exasperated on Monday with the over excessive campaign posters’ "décor" in the capital, ahead of snap elections on January 25, noting that municipal teams will have to “tear down party posters from all over the place”, Kathimerini reports. “Some parties are living in the 18th century”, said the Mayor, “we are living in the internet era, we're in the 21st century and no one pays any attention to posters”, he added. He stressed that “the city is suffering” and that “only a handful of small businessmen benefit from the posters”. On SYRIZA's pledges to cut down the number of ministries as a way to increase the efficiency of public administration, Kaminis commented that “for an umpteenth time a politician promises to cut the number of ministries” and usually when such steps are taken, the number of general secretariats increases and “nothing changes”. “Municipalities must be granted the powers to do our job”, he said.
