Greece’s memorandum obligation of passing a coastal bill was stressed by European Commissioner Siim Kallas who underlined that within the context of the fourth review of the second economic adjustment program for Greece further discussions were conducted “concerning measures to improve the use of land for economic development. The Greek government pledged to adopt in due course new legislation regarding coastal zones, and the planning act to rationalize the national spatial planning process”. The European Commissioner also reminded the government’s need to institute law on forestry. “Authorities will also introduce a new forestry act to clarify the definition of forests and forest land, and to rationalize the Forestry Service” said the commissioner, appraising that Greece has made progress attracting investment for projects related to land registry and forest maps, ensuring their completion by 2020.
