Four Greek regions among those with oldest population in Europe

A survey on the distribution of the European population in terms of age, published by the European Statistics authority, Eurostat, has shown that four regions in Greece hold some of the highest rates in the European Union.

The region of Evrytania, central Greece, demonstrates a 32.2% rate, coming second only to the Portuguese region of Pinhal Interior Sul. The other Greek regions with a high percentage of residents aged 65 and above are, Grevena with 28.5%, Arta with 28% and Serres with an equal 28% rate.

The very opposite applies for the region of Xanthe, northern Greece, and Rethymno, Crete where according to the same survey, hold the highest rate of residents aged 15 and younger, 18.2% and 17.5% respectively.

The regions with the largest rates of young population are located in Ireland and France.
