Majority of Britons support the return of Parthenon Marbles

Britain should return the Parthenon Marbles to Greece, believes the majority of Britons, according to a new poll conducted by the YouGov international market research agency. A 37 percent said that the sculptures should be given back to their country of origin, while 23 percent said the marbles should remain at the British Museum in London. 32 percent showed indifference about the issue and 7 percent said they did not know.
Responding to the question why Britain should give up the marbles, most of those who favoured for their return said that they are “one work of art and should be reunited along with the rest of the Parthenon sculptures in Greece”.
The poll took place on October 16-17 on the occasion of a three-day visit to Athens by a London-based legal team, including lawyer Amal Alamuddin Clooney, for talks with Greek officials over a potential bid to claim the marbles.
