Plans to expand Athens metro network with new line of 29 stations

Plans to expand the Athens metro network with a new U-shaped line of 29 stations have been recently revealed by the Greek Ministry of Infrastructure. 

The zealous one billion euros project involves the construction of a new autonomous line, to connect densely populated areas of the city. Firstly there will be nine stations to connect:  Alsos Veikou-Galatsi-Kypseli-Dikastiria-Alexandras-Exarxia-Penepistimio-Kolonaki-Evangelismos.

Fully developed, the orange colored Line 4 (L4 – U Line) will consist of 10 station to serve the Evangelismos-Maroussi route, 2 stations for Alsos Veikou-Perissos and 3 stations to connect Maroussi to the National Highway.  

To acquire funding, the Greek Ministry of Infrastructure is currently in talks with the European Investment Bank while announcements are soon to be made.
